It is amazing what women can do when they put their minds to it. For men to believe that women are incapable of great adventures and feats is laughable. Each time I hear a man say something like this, I just shake my head, because apparently they don't know the kind of women that I do. I often find that women make better leaders, better entrepreneurs, and are often more dedicated in their sports and endeavors than most of the men.
There was a great article in Boating Magazine in the June 2010 edition titled; "On Board With Katie Spotz - She Crossed the Ocean the Hard Way," and after reading the article, I'd say she definitely gave a one-ups-woman-ship to all men out there. Yes, she did cross the ocean the hard way, this 22-year old rowed across the ocean, holy smokes, can you imagine that - the determination, drive, endurance, and perseverance of one strong woman - totally amazing in every regard.
In the interview in the magazine she stated she took a few 1,000 songs, and audio lectures on her journey, imagine that, she could get a whole years school work while rowing across the ocean. Luckily, she didn't face any big storms while out there in the middle of the ocean thankfully. Yes, Katie was able to row across the Atlantic Ocean in 70 days, because she set her mind to do it.
She proved that women can do anything they put their mind to, and she triumphed over adversity and made the grade. Although when she finished she was somewhat sunburned, and had trouble walking up and down stairs, from sitting and rowing, or sleeping, as she was unable to stand up without holding onto something to the rowboat, she made it through with flying colors.
No one should ever estimate the triumph of a woman, or any woman that sets her mind out to do something. Nothing is impossible, and to think that men are somehow better suited for adventure, and accomplishing their goals than women are, is completely sexist and biased in my humble opinion. I think Katie proved that. If you are a superstar woman embarking on a great adventure, I hope you will please e-mail me, and tell me about all that is you are doing. Please think on this.
