Shopping In Ireland - Read This Before You Visit

When shopping in Ireland you must be aware that most of the shops keep hours from 9am-6pm Monday -Saturday. Some of them stay open a little later toward the end of the week to accommodate shoppers who have to go the banks after work.

You can use plastic at most stores but you will be required to use the pin number for all purchases. They also have a levy on plastic bags, that means you will have to pay for them if you want them.

When visiting this fair country it is good to treat yourself to a bit of retail therapy. The people are friendly and service oriented. It is possible that you will find a real bargain on some items you may have been putting off. Big spenders or casual shoppers will all have a grand time shopping in Ireland.

Dublin is the shopping Mecca of the "Emerald Isle". They have boutiques and shopping centers located near all the major hotels and the pace of the shops is nothing like the feeding frenzy you find in American Malls and department stores.

Not only is the retail shopping in Ireland great the prices on hostels, hotels and bed and breakfast establishments are so economical as to leave you more in your pockets to enjoy the sites and sounds of this wondrous country.

Start your tour of the retail district with the quaint shops along Henry Street. It has two shopping centers, the Jervis Street Shopping center and the Illac Center. If you cannot find that perfect gift item there you may want to go down to the Roches Stores complex. These stores are the favorite haunts of the locals and home to an entire range of top of the line International Brands.

Moore Street is home to some of the liveliest markets you are bound to see on your tour of Dublin. You can walk the street and see the shops in an area made famous by the urban legends, like Molly Malone. If you follow the spire from Henry to O' Connell Street you will find something that is a bit more American. They Have a Penny's and there own version of a department store called Cleary's.

Crossing over the bridge you will find yourself on Grafton Street. This is also one of the many places that tourist go when shopping in Ireland. This is the area where you find the designer fashions. The "Harrods" of Ireland, the famous Brown Thomas store is located on this street.

The transportation choices while you are shopping in Ireland range from the city bus service to the train. The choice to drive is of course yours but it may serve you better to take advantage of the local transportation. Being a tourist in Ireland, especially if it's your first visit, you could get lost very easily.

There are tourist offices located throughout that will help you plan your stay. They provide you with maps and a list of must see sites while, this will come in handy unless you planned to spend all of your time shopping in Ireland.
